Sleep: 2 years ago · ViewLooking at sleep on a wider scale, if you were to sleep 8-10 hours per night and lived for 90 years, you would have slept on average 1/3 of your life away ! Thats around a staggering 30-40 years, now that is a lot of sleep.

According to the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research, between 30 and 40% of adults in the USA say they experience symptoms of insomnia at some point each year, and for many it’s a chronic condition. New York, known as the ”city that never sleeps” is worthy of that title according to a new US documentary – more details at http://bit.ly/cQakuo and post your experiences at Digital FEAT

I had a decent sleep last night, though did have a dream about work, so I must keep an eye on myself to make sure work doesn’t start to take over my life again. There is a short factsheet about sleep problems now available download at: http://bit.ly/bgl2bl and is well worth a look.

The average amount of sleep is seven or eight hours a night, but we all need different amounts, and less and less as we get older. We pass through cycles of light and deep sleep at night. Every 90 minutes comes a period of dream sleep (REM), which is vital for our wellbeing. Sometimes we incur a ‘sleep debt’, making us tired and irritable, unable to concentrate or to function properly. It stops once the debt is paid off.
- Hazel Duncan posted a new activity comment: %sMy goodness I have incurred a lot of sleep debt..may take the next 20 years to repay it! Found all the sleep articles interesting and its a good reminder on the importance of good quality sleep. I must try to improve my sleep patterns, the FEAT info sheet was very useful and will start to put it in action……starting tonight! Thanks

How much sleep do I need? Usually, about seven or eight hours a night is enough for the average adult, but a small number of people need more than ten hours or fewer than five. The amount of sleep we need, and its pattern, changes with age.
